Project Updates
To validate the anticipated benefits of the Seward Shore Power Project, an emissions study has been initiated. It will quantify the estimated emissions released by cruise ships, while at port, before and after the Shorepower system is in operation. The final emissions report is expected by February 2027.
The City of Seward is currently negotiating with the successful bidder for the shore power equipment portion of the project (electrical components at the dock). The substation and transmission line procurement packages will be released for bidding in June 2026.
The Alaska Vocational Technical Center was awarded funds to create a workforce development program through the Environmental Protection Agency’s 2024 Clean Ports Program: Zero Emission Technology Deployment Competition. This program is currently being formulated, and it will promote alignment of skills and jobs within the community.
